Civil Circuit is a short documentary originally conceived as a capstone assignment for Longwood University’s Communication Studies program. The recording process began a year before it was assigned to the 2021 class.

Civil Circuit follows the relationship between the Civil Rights movement and the small two-college town of Farmville, Virginia. In 2020, the small town joined the George Floyd protests, taking steps to swiftly remove the century-old Confederate statue overlooking the edge of Longwood University’s campus.

The documentary was given first place at the Longwood University Communication Studies showcase and was submitted for Emmy consideration a week prior. Longwood University’s Communication Studies department sponsored the submission, earning the university its first Emmy win in 2021.
